The 70th anniversary of VE Day was commemorated at Sheffield
Cathedral with a 1940s themed living history event for all the family.
There was displays, vehicles, home front and military re-enactors and
children’s activities outside and inside the cathedral to commemorate
and remember Sheffield’s role in World War 2 and celebrate the 70th
anniversary of Victory in Europe 1945.
1940s music
was played throughout the day by a Swing Band, pianist and the Bobby Pins Trio
(think Andrews Sisters!). ‘Winston
Churchill’ gave his famous speeches as we remembered his visit to
Sheffield following the Blitz in 1940.
