The World Snooker Championship is the leading professional snooker tournament in terms of both prize money and ranking points. The first championship was held in 1927; and since 1977, it has been played at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.

Sharrow Lantern Carnival
This year's Sharrow Lantern Carnival gathered at Mount Pleasant Park and headed off via London Road to the General Cemetery Park for live music, fire spinners and the lantern release. The theme of this year's Carnival was Elements. The parade was headed by the Sheffield Samba Band and backed up by African drummers.
